Powers and Sons is a market leader of wheel-to-wheel steering linkages. These linkages provide an opportunity to exercise our abilities to design, develop, prototype and manufacture complex systems. The end result meets our corporate commitment of BLTSBest quality products at the Least possible cost with Timely delivery and a commitment for total customer Satisfaction.

The Process Begins with You…The Customer

Together, we establish program targets and expectations. These targets are the basis for design and manufacturing decisions made throughout the project. Your voice, as the customer, will be forefront in our process.

Once targets are established, the design process begins. Load data, geometry and vehicle package constraints from the customer can be CAE files (Powers and Sons has SDRC, CATIA and Autocad download and upload capability) or paper files. Mating parts suppliers (knuckles and pitman arms) are contacted and review meetings established. It is essential that the people who produce these parts be in concert with the design of the attachment.

Finite Element Analysis is conducted on the forgings and ball studs to optimize the design. From there, Powers and Sons develops a preliminary design proposal. This will be reviewed by you, the customer, and refined as necessary.

As the design is evolving, so is the manufacturing plan. As a QS-9000, TS-16949 company, Powers and Sons follows all Advanced Product Quality Planning guidelines established by the AIAG. Our Lean Engineering plan is added to the mix to establish the most efficient manufacturing process. A pull-through cellular operation with kanban cards has been found most efficient in manufacturing steering linkage.

Forgings represent a significant portion of the steering linkage. To help minimize cost, Powers and Sons has developed first-class domestic and offshore forging suppliers.
